Tips For Getting Settled In A Rental

March 5, 2018

The search is over. Working with Apartment Hunters has really paid off because—among the overwhelming amount of rentals in Downtown Little Rock—you’ve finally found a place to live.

Now it’s time to get settled. Here are a few tips from the relocation experts at Apartment Hunters.

Tip 1: Inspect the bare apartment.

You’ve already taken a tour of the apartment before agreeing to the rental. But now you get to walk through the empty space on your own.

Be observant. It is extremely important to carefully document all the damages you see before you begin the moving-in process. You don’t want to be held accountable. Some damages might even require repairs at your landlords cost. Don’t miss those details.

It’s also a good idea to clean the bare apartment before you begin to move in. Despite the landlord’s best efforts, some corners and cupboards may have gone years without proper attention. This might be the easiest time to clean floors, baseboards, counters, and more of most rentals.

Tip 2: Inspect your stuff as it is moved in from the moving truck.

If you are being relocated with our help, you are probably using a moving service. We recommend it for many reasons. Book the movers early so you are sure to get their help on the day you need it. We also recommend getting movers insurance. On your own you could get injured or end up damaging your own property. When it comes to your personal belongings, it’s always better to be safe than sorry moving into new rentals.

Be sure to tip your movers. They are saving you a lot of trouble. Lifting the heavy stuff and navigating large items into your new home.

Is anything missing? When you are moving, organization is crucial. If organizing is not your thing, at least keep track of how many boxes you have and make sure they all arrive. We recommend making an inventory checklist.

What is the best way to stay organized during your move? Use the organization techniques that work well for you.

Tip 3: Unpack the necessities first.

What will you need first? If you are first arriving to your new Downtown Little Rock apartment after a long day of travel, you’ll want your bed and everything  you need for a good sleep easily accessible.

For most, the best way to get unpacked is room-by-room. Starting with your bedroom and bathroom, then move on to unpack the kitchen.

Tip 4: Pay attention to details when getting your utilities set up.

How much are you paying for gas, electricity, and water? Are any of these utilities included in your rent? These are bills you don’t want to lose track of.

Your landlord will be your best source of information while you are getting your utilities set up.

You might want to wait on getting your wireless internet set up until you’ve gotten at least a little more unpacked? We all have unique ways of getting ourselves motivated to accomplish tasks. Also, without wireless internet, you’ll have to find the nearest local coffee shop. This will help you get comfortable with the Downtown Little Rock area

Tip 5: Have fun decorating!

Now that you’ve got a functional space to call home, it is time to make it feel like home. Decorating takes time. You need to live in the space a while to get a feel for how you would like to decorate.

Decorate slowly so your budget will allow you to buy quality decor and furniture. If you don’t love it, don’t buy it.
